Annotations Sidebar

Thumbnails, outline, and the annotations list - create highlights, add comments, and jump to any marked passage.

Open the left sidebar with the toolbar toggle. It has several tabs:

  • Thumbnails - a thumbnail of every page for quick navigation.
  • Outline - the document table of contents, when the PDF includes one.
  • Annotations - a list of all your highlights and notes.

Creating a highlight

Select text in the PDF; a small popup appears with color swatches. Click a color to highlight the text. The colors are red, orange, yellow (the default), green, cyan, pink, purple, and gray.

Working with annotations

In the Annotations tab, each entry shows its color, the highlighted text, any comment, and its page. From an entry you can:

  • Jump to it - click to scroll the PDF to that spot.
  • Add or edit a comment - attach a note to the highlight.
  • Delete it.

Your highlights and notes also appear in the Docs tab of the smart sidebar for that paper, and they can feed the AI sidebar. To save them as a document, see Export and reformat.
