The short version: Sciwand is a local-first research tool: your library, documents, and prompts stay on your device and are yours. We provide the software; you're responsible for how you use it and for any third-party AI services you connect.
1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, or using Sciwand ("the App") or this website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
2. Your licence to use Sciwand
Subject to these terms and any plan you purchase, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the App. Unless stated otherwise, a licence is for your individual use. You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense, or reverse-engineer the App except to the extent the law expressly permits.
3. Your data and content
Your research library, PDFs, notes, annotations, and prompts remain on your device and belong to you. We do not host, process, or back up that content, and we have no access to it. You are solely responsible for your content, for backing it up, and for ensuring you have the rights to any material you import or process.
4. Third-party AI & services
AI and embedding features send requests directly from your device to the provider you configure, using your own account and credentials. Those providers are independent third parties; your use of them is governed by their terms, and you are responsible for any usage fees and for complying with their policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or output of third-party services.
5. Payments, plans & refunds
Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Prices and plan details are shown at checkout. Educational discounts are subject to eligibility verification. A licence is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and you will not be billed again.
We do not offer a voluntary money-back guarantee. Sciwand is free to download and its core features are free to use indefinitely, and every AI feature is unlocked in full for a trial period when you first run the app, so you can evaluate the product before you pay. Please use that trial rather than relying on a refund.
This does not affect your statutory rights. Where consumer law gives you a right to cancel or to a remedy, that right applies regardless of anything in these terms. If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content; by asking us to activate your licence immediately you consent to that supply beginning at once and acknowledge that you lose the cancellation right once activation has taken place. If a licence is faulty or does not work as described, you remain entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund under applicable law.
If you were charged in error, charged twice, or believe you are entitled to a refund under the above, contact [email protected] and we will deal with it in good faith.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Sciwand to break the law, infringe others' rights, or abuse connected services (including attempts to circumvent licensing, rate limits, or discount eligibility checks).
7. Intellectual property
The App, website, branding, and their underlying software are owned by Sciwand and its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms don't transfer any ownership to you beyond the licence granted above.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
Sciwand is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI outputs will be accurate; always verify results before relying on them.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sciwand will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are breached. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as IP, disclaimers, and liability limits) will survive.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date; continued use after changes means you accept them.
